FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS We know that you may have questions about the services Cornhusker Place offers. We hope that these frequently asked questions and answers will help give you a better understanding of the treatment options available at Cornhusker Place. Can Cornhusker Place treat meth users? Yes, Cornhusker Place treats individuals who use alcohol and other drugs, such as cocaine, marijuana, or methamphetamine. What about prescription drugs? Because ending an addiction to prescription drugs is a long-term process involving regular physician care, Cornhusker Place doesn’t treat these cases. Call us at (402) 477-3951 for information on where to seek help. I have a family member who needs help but doesn’t want to admit himself. Can I admit someone who doesn’t want to stay? All treatment at Cornhusker Place is voluntary except for those people who are admitted to Civil Protective Custody by law enforcement officers. The first step to successful treatment requires that the individual wants to get better. That said, our counselors at Cornhusker Place can offer assistance and guidance with interventions. Call us at (402) 477-3951. Why should I come to Cornhusker Place for detox rather than just sobering up at home? Voluntary Medical Detoxification (VMD) is crucial to becoming sober long-term. Although it’s just a first step, VMD offers a safe environment including medical supervision as you encounter physical symptoms while you begin the withdrawal process. How long will it take me to detox? If you’re more than a casual user, it could take up to a week. Your body has become dependent on this substance or combination of alcohol and drugs. Some people, once their bodies realize the alcohol or drug is gone, develop tremors after a few days, are unable to walk steadily, and even develop seizures. That’s why it’s important to have well-trained medical professionals helping you. Why does this program require medical supervision? Can’t I just “sleep it off”? Because withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs often causes medical issues, including the possibility of seizures, medically trained professionals can provide you with the safest, most effective care. Is three to five days enough to do any good? Three to five days of withdrawal won’t provide you with lasting life changes. That’s why we offer residential treatment programs if you’ve successfully completed VMD. How can I get into your Detox program? You can call us at (402) 477-3951 or email us at info@cornhuskerplace.org for information. Where else can I go for detoxification services? Lincoln’s hospitals provide medically supervised detoxification if your insurance will cover it. Other organizations provide a setting for you to detoxify but have no medical supervision. For those who are unemployed, under-employed, or lack health insurance, Cornhusker Place provides access to affordable medical detox—the first step to turning around your life. If I’ve decided to enter the Voluntary Medical Detoxification program, am I then eligible for Short Term Treatment? Yes, you can move from VMD to Short Term Treatment if room is available in the program. Our staff will help you transition to the next step in your recovery. Can 30 to 45 days in Short Term Treatment really help me become sober? We see people succeed every day with this program. Finding yourself in a constructive environment where you receive new tools to cope can make all the difference for you. But if we find that, after completing treatment, you need more time, our Intermediate Residential Treatment program is designed to provide you with the necessary structure and support for as long as 12 months. Do I have to pay for treatment at The Bridge? You will be billed for services based on your income and ability to pay. We understand that you may not be able to make complete payment and we will work with you so that money is not a barrier to your desire to become sober. |
